I was searching around for apps for Philips hue. Still cannot test it since only ordered Hue today from apple store. Which apps would you recommend?

The one I use most often and also love their special light animations is AMBEE. Although, it’s so far only available for iOS.

Look at some of the light animations photos they use. Looks amazing in my opinion. Just my 2 cents.

Definitely. I’ve tried a few of them that offer the dynamic light scenes, and Ambee has the best experience of all of them, not to mention the beautiful UI.

Look at the different light dynanic light animations in my bedroom 🙂

I also like OnSwitch – it also offers quite of few free scenes. Scintillator is not a bad one either.

I prefer Ambee, it’s an app by Thomas Baran who did Goldee, it’s pretty much the same!

There is such a big choice right now, there is hundreds of apps by now (Android+iOS), although I still don’t see any true app leader :/

Fully agree.

I use Philips hue 2, Hue Disco and Hue Fireworks. Tried also others. But so far, none of them makes me happy. Don’t understand why I must choose scenes, when I just want a colour. Most simple things don’t work.

I think the best equivalent for OnSwitch and others for Windows PC / tablet / mobile / xbox is currently hueDynamic. It’s a platform that’s not that well catered for compared to iOS / Android.

@jaws234 it all depends on what you’re looking for. I like to think that Lightbow has the largest and richest collection of immersive light+sound presets, plus the best tools available to create your own. It runs on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Apple Watch. As for hardware, it’ll handle Philips hue, LIFX, and Belkin WeMo. I’m the developer, so let me know if you have any questions or check out www.lightbow.net

Is there way to copy-paste the colors in a scene?

I added your app to my wishlist, I found it the day it came out it looks really good and promising the only reason I didn’t buy it yet is I been burnt by so many new apps making grandiose claims of constant updates adding new free content only to have a release never come or change to IAP’s.  I am also waiting for more reviews there are 3 5 star reviews on the day it launched which I’m thinking these are friend reviews.  Unfortunately past bad app developers and fake reviews are holding me back from being an early adopter of this app.  That being said everything I saw so far really makes me want this app and hope all the claims are true as I check at least a couple times a day for more reviews or updates.

Hello @heftybags, Thanks for you comment here 🙂

I also don’t like the model with many IAP’s inside the app. I think it’s too much asking for $2 for every new scene on the app. One thing that I asked myself before launching it was about the business model: FREE with IAP or Pay-once?

I’ve decided for pay once as in that way I have fewer customers at the beginning, so I can build the app based on users feedbacks. If I decide to change it to Free with IAP in the future, all pay-once users will have access to every content without the need to pay again. Also, as I don’t like the model mentioned above, it would probably be a single IAP to unlock all scenes, not just 1 or a small group of scenes.

About the 3 reviews, just 1 is from a friend. He is also a Philips Hue user and helped me to test the app, so he’s a real user 🙂 People usually don’t review apps spontanially and I’m not asking for it, so it’s normal to not have many reviews at this time.

Again, thanks for your feedbacks about it!

Thanks for replying it shows you care about the app and making it better and Philips Hue is already a niche market and it’s even more niche for people using third party apps to control their lights so I decided to download it last night and give it a try and I can say I really like it.  The scenes are nice and I appreciate the non animated ones (how many apps do we need to flicker red light and call it fire), I mean animated scenes are cool when you first get the lights or show them off to friends but they are not that practical for daily use.  It’s easy to use and make new groups or create custom groups, it’s not a super powerful app like some of them but there is already a market for those types of apps and we don’t need another one, this you pick your room(s) select a scene and be done with it which is great.  The screen shots in the app store show they type of scenes like fire, nature, etc but the colors are unique compared to similar apps and there are scenes like sports which is different from other apps I used.  I would recommend this app as is but not for someone who is a power user and wants to control every single aspect of their lights, it’s great for set it and forget it which I think is a big market.  As of now it’s only version 1.0 of the app and at $4 it’s a bit expensive for an app store price but as I said it’s a niche of a niche if people don’t support it then more money can’t be put into development.  I do have a question and maybe I’m missing something the description in the app store says 30 scenes but I only count 20 is that a typo in the description?  All in all I’m happy with app and look forward to updates.  Good luck.

Thanks for your support and feedbacks! I’m trying to make the app as simple as possible 🙂

About the number of scenes, it was a mistake at my side. There are more scenes that I forgot to input into the app before sending it to the App Store 🙁

I’ll send an update today with some improvements based on feedbacks:

  • Reorder Groups at the dashboard screen
  • Delete Groups
  • New scenes
on March 29, 2017

I’ve just released an update with Apple Watch support and more 4 scenes based on cities around the world! Check it out on the App Store 🙂

Feel free to contact me if you have any question or feedbacks. Thanks!
