Lightstrip without an outlet

I want to put a lightstrip on my stairwell and in my bathroom, but I don’t have outlets nearby. Is there a way to use an alternate power source? Is there a better color lightstrip for this?

I’m in a similar situation – I want to put a light strip on my patio where there is a switched bulb.

As best I can tell, my only option is to take the power feed from the bulb and put a box with a standard plug and space to attach (plug in) the power adapter. Then I can mount and seal the box with a small opening for the HUE power cable.  It is unclear how much of the brains are in the power adapter and how much are in the switch, so hard to know what you can ‘cut out’.
