Bridge not found-New user

Hi There, I have just bought my first Phillips Hue set up at Christmas. Set Up: I have a single bulb and version 2 of the hub. a)Our internet provider is Hyperoptic which comes through a fibre to the home router. This works fine. I do not have physical access to the router so have extended the network to an Apple Airport Base Station. This has allowed me to plug the hue bridge into the ethernet. I have extended the network so it is on the same SSD as the main router. Problem: The Phillips Hue app can not see the bridge if I have the airport station set up as an extended. If I set up the base station as a standalone wifi network (although no internet) I can connect to the bridge via the app and everything works as expected.   Any ideas how I can make the app see the bridge via the app with the router working as an extender and not standalone?   Sorry, new to all this and not great with networking… Thanks in advance

Hey there,

First quick check: click this link on your iPhone: https://www.meethue.com/api/nupnp  Copy+Paste what the screen gives you.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I guess this might be the start of the issue. I am presuming I should have more than a blank webpage with “[ ] “. Thanks Jamie

Yep, that’s right. That just simply proves that the bridge is not seen by your phone.

We have a similar set up. What I assume is happening is that your iPhone is connected to the original router (instead of the extended one), which is by the way not good for the internet connection itself. The way we solved it is by renaming the extending network (so it has a distinct name from the original wifi). That way, you’ll make sure you’re iPhone won’t connect to the original (which has a weaker signal). And you’ll also make sure you’ll be connected to your Hue Bridge at all times.

Hope it helps. Please, let us all know whether it worked out or not. I’m sure it will help others with the similar situation.Thanks.

Yes, this sounds exactly right although I am struggling to wok out how to set up AirPort Extreme to allow me to extend the network but with a different name. I can set up a new network in isolation and under the same name without a bother using the airport app on my phone. Unsure how to do “networkname_extention” for instance though. Not sure if this is of help?

Uff, let’s ask here others. Since am not sure how to set up the airport Extreme. I have a different brand. I believe there should be an installation guide or something like that.
