High frequency noise from new model GU10

Has anyone had this issue, and hopefully resolved it?

I have a number of new model GU10 bulbs.  Some are colour ambiance, some white only.  Each emits a particular, and very annoying high pitched frequency, mostly oscillating, ONLY WHEN OFF.  It’s really annoying since these are in the bedroom and at night, when it’s quiet, you can hear it ever so slightly.

I managed to even record the noise on an iPhone :-/

I experience the same problem with GU10 bulbs, color and white ones. They emit a high-pitched noise, only when OFF. I have older GU10 bulbs (w/o bluetooth) in my bedroom and they are silent, so the problem appears only with bluetooth bulbs.

Have not found a solution yet, hope an update will someday resolve this.

Same here 🙁

I don’t think a software update will make any change…It’s seems to be a hardware issue

Interesting about the bluetooth angle.  I have a support case open with Philips and have sent back some bulbs for testing – awaiting their analysis.  However I was very explicit about the symptoms and even recorded the noise.  TBH it’s not a big deal UNLESS (like me) you sleep under the damm things and you have good hearing 🙂 . IN which case it’s PITA.

i also opens a support case at Philips. They told me it was a know problem and they ask for my adres to send me new once’s when the problem is solved…. where is a link to a video a made of it…. https://youtu.be/4VbvBqokLRQ

Thanks for you feedback. Good thing they’re aware of it…

Did you call them ? Customer service from which country? Will you have to return your bulbs back ?

Thank you again for your informations !

ik send a e-mail tot the servicedesk of Philips in the Netherlands. meanwhile they contacted mee. I can send them back under the granary program and they well send mee new once. But…. it is still possible that the new sports have the same issue they say…. so…

I wrote to Philips and they told me to exchange at the store that I bought them from. Only thing is the store wont have any till at least the 16th. Annoying that this appears to be a known issues and they dont want to help their customers.

Actually I don’t believe that will do you any good I’m afraid.  You could try but …

They contacted me yesterday.  Apparently this is a design flaw in the new bluetooth range of GU10.  They are looking to solve however can give no ETA.  Indeed the customer support has been REALLY good, I’m pretty impressed.  The only down-side is there is no magic wand to fix a technical detail like this.

I am tempted to try the older non-bluetooth model (remember it’s a longer dimension than a standard GU10 though!) since that not having bluetooth someone above suggested it also does not have the issue.

Shame really, I love these bulbs.  Even though they’re knocking on 50 notes each 😮

Im not super hopeful either ha Unfortunately customer support wont help me with exchanging them and I had to exchange at the original retailer. I did just receive a new bulb from amazon and doesn’t appear to have this issue which is a good sign. Fingers crossed!

No shit?  Really?  Please keep us updated – would be really interested if newer units don’t have this issue.  Presuming your issue is that when the light is off (according to HUe app) and still powered (ours is direct linked to lighting circuit so always on if you get me) then you get the noise.

on January 9, 2020

Yeah I was surprised but I mean since I didn’t purchase directly from them that might be their process. I should have kept the original box because I believe it shows the batch/production date so that may have had helped determine a time frame.

+sounds like the same scenario. I have these in my ceiling light so HUE app says off but to have all the alarm/other features you have to have the switch on. When I turn the app off it makes a high pitch noise. Like I mentioned, the new bulb I received via Amazon has not made noise but will keep y’all updated!

I would definitely be interested – reason being when I spoke as above they could give no ETA as to when the problem is solved.  So either you have not hit the issue yet (which sound not right since it’s constant for me), they’re not having the correct information given to them or some other thing I cannot think.

So, on the outcome of your analysis I’d be taking a punt and ordering again, replacing the dodgy ones as returns in the new boxes (LOL).  However I didn’t see you say specifically you have GU10 – is that your bulb?  Also it’s the new bluetooth model (standard size gu10 as opposed to the old longer barrel one).
